Who We Are & What We Do
We are an army of family, friends, and community, united by love, purpose, and the memory of an extraordinary woman — Alysha.
Formed in 2019, Alysha’s Army came together as Alysha’s courageous battle with her brain tumour — which she cheekily named Gladys — came to an end. In those final months, her strength, humour, and compassion continued to inspire everyone around her.
Today, we carry on her legacy.
Alysha’s Army is committed to raising awareness and vital funds for brain cancer research. Our mission is clear: to help create a future where no family has to face what we did — where better treatments, hope, and ultimately a cure are within reach.

đź’« A Diagnosis That Sparked a Movement
In 2015, Alysha was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of adult brain cancer. Rather than be defined by her illness, Alysha chose to fight — not just for herself, but for others.
Over the next three-and-a-half years, she became a powerful voice for brain cancer awareness, an advocate for accessibility, and an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
🎓 Education and Career
Despite her diagnosis, Alysha pursued her dreams. She completed a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science at Monash University, graduating in 2018.
That same year, she began an internship with BUPA, which quickly became a full-time role. Her work left a lasting legacy — from advocating for automatic doors to introducing gender-neutral toilets in the workplace. A plaque on her floor at BUPA honours her influence and spirit.

Alysha’s passion went beyond brain cancer. She was a fierce advocate for disability rights and accessibility, always looking for ways to make life better for others.

Whether supporting others at advocacy events, attending support groups, or cheering on her friends, Alysha built community wherever she went.

On the first anniversary of her diagnosis, Alysha rallied over 200 friends and family for her first Walk4BrainCancer in 2016. Her team raised more than $15,000, marching under the powerful hashtag #GOAWAYEGLADYS.
In 2017, she was invited as the guest speaker at the Dine 4 a Cure Ball, addressing more than 300 guests. Her speech brought the room to its feet in a standing ovation — a moment that defined her grace and strength.
🌱 A Legacy That Lives On
Even in her final months, Alysha kept giving. She donated funds raised for her own treatment to Cure Brain Cancer Foundation — so that others might benefit.
Alysha passed away in February 2019, but her impact lives on. Her story continues to inspire action, spark change, and bring hope to others walking similar paths.

Alysha began her journey with Cure Brain Cancer Foundation in 2016, marking the first anniversary of her diagnosis with an unforgettable show of strength and community. Surrounded by more than 200 friends and family, she led a Walk4BrainCancer team under the banner #GOAWAYEGLADYS, a powerful message to her tumour. Together, the team raised over $15,000 to support vital brain cancer research.
In 2017, Alysha took to the stage as the guest speaker at the Dine 4 a Cure Ball, held in partnership with Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. Speaking candidly about her journey, she moved a crowd of over 300 guests at Melbourne’s Palladium. Her powerful words and brave spirit earned her a standing ovation as she walked off stage — a moment that continues to inspire all who were there.
